Presentation of the results of the BiomáisCO2 project
The presentation of the results of this project in which UXAFORES participates was held online on September 30.
The 'Biomáis CO2' project started in 2022 has been led by the company Asefor and has also involved the Bioeco2 association, the Wood Cluster, Ramón Lourido and the USC. This activity carried out by an Operational Group has been funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Galician Regional Government with EAFRD Funds.
The presentation showed the new functionalities implemented in the "Bikenta Mplus" tool under this project, among which the one that allows simulating the evolution of a forest stand following a given management prescription stands out. As explained by UXAFORES member Ulises Diéguez in his presentation, the simulator provides estimates of the carbon captured by the forest stand and an economic evaluation of the investment, which will allow owners and technicians to make better-informed management decisions.
The simulator currently includes the dynamic growth models at stand level developed prior to this project at the Higher Polytechnic School of Engineering of Lugo (USC) for the three main species of pine present in Galicia (pinaster, radiata and Scots pine), for two deciduous broadleaved trees (oak and birch) and for blue gum eucalyptus. Next year, the shinning gum eucalyptus model is also expected to be incorporated.
A video with the results of the project is available.
